LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Search and rescue crews had a busy weekend after conducting back-to-back rescues in the Red Rock Canyon area on Saturday.
The first rescue occurred around noon following reports of a severely dehydrated hiker who also sustained an ankle injury in the area of First Creek.
Rescuers from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Clark County Fire Department Station 28, and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Station 44 hiked in to reach the person, who was later transported to the BLM Helipad and transferred to a ground ambulance for care, officials say.

The second was rescued shortly after in Calico Basin, where another hiker also reported being severely dehydrated and was reportedly not able to continue on their own.
According to officials, the hiker was extracted via hoist, flown to the BLM helipad, and transferred to a ground ambulance.
Rescue crews noted that in both incidents, both people were not prepared with proper amounts of fluid for the extreme heat conditions.
For those planning to hike in the heat, officials recommend carrying at least one liter (33 ounces) of water per person for every hour of mild activity. To stay ahead of dehydration, hikers should also drink continuously and pack salty snacks and electrolytes to replenish their bodies.
Officials urge anyone planning outdoor activities to exercise extreme caution under the current conditions.
