LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign will glow purple Monday to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s and brain health.
Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones will host a ceremony at the sign on June 1 at 8 a.m. The iconic landmark will be lit purple to honor more than 54,000 Clark County residents living with Alzheimer’s, along with the families and caregivers who support them.

Jones said the weight of the disease deserves the community’s full recognition and commitment, and that awareness is the first step toward change.
Hector Fernandez, CEO of IGT and a member of the Alzheimer’s Association board, is also part of the event. He lost his mother to early-onset Alzheimer’s and said supporting the cause is deeply personal. He said he wants to stand with the thousands of Southern Nevada families impacted.
Statewide impact
Nevada is home to almost 55,000 people living with Alzheimer’s. Caregivers in the state provide an estimated 226 million hours of unpaid care every year, worth more than $2.6 billion.
Fewer than half of those affected ever receive a formal diagnosis that is clearly disclosed by a clinician.
