LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – As temperatures keep climbing outside, staying cool inside can be tough, especially if the air conditioning is out.

One local veteran who was on the Honor Flight with FOX5 earlier this year got a much-needed delivery Thursday.

“It’s over 20 years old,” Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran Bob Jackson said of his busted AC unit. “It went down last year 3 or 4 times, and at the beginning of this season, it went down the very first day I turned it on.”

Jackson applied for a free unit from Semper Fi Heating and Cooling.

“This gentleman has gone through many years of air conditioning ups and downs,” Wendy Adams, Marketing Manager at Semper Fi, told FOX5. “Times are tough, and our veterans — they just don’t have the resources to buy a new unit.”

Adams and Semper Fi delivered a free AC unit to Jackson’s house on Thursday, after his application was accepted.

“(This) means I don’t have anything to worry about for at least 15-20 years,” Jackson said, relieved.

Jackson witnessed what happened to many of his fellow vets coming back from Vietnam.

“People were throwing items on them, cussing them out and everything,” he recalled.

“What happened after Vietnam is a shame that it happened,” Adams added. “Our Veterans deserve our honor and our respect.”

Jackson is happy that times have changed, and now, thanks to Semper Fi giving back, he can enjoy a cool home all summer.
