LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says it is seeing a rise in reports of phone scams involving fake jury duty warrants and callers impersonating law enforcement or court officials.
Metro’s digital investigations team says two scams are circulating in the valley: the missed jury duty scam and the law enforcement imposter scam. Victims receive a call or text claiming they missed jury duty or a court appearance and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. Scammers may follow up with what appears to be an official warrant document that includes the victim’s name and a fake bond amount, then pressure the victim to withdraw cash or send money.
Detectives say scammers often use real official names found online to appear legitimate.

“If someone is calling and they’re saying they’re from law enforcement or from the court and they’re asking for money in any kind of way, we’re never going to do that… and if you’ve already sent money, file a report and contact your bank right away,” said Det. Mark Evans of LVMPD’s digital investigations unit.
What to do if you are targeted
Metro says real officers and courts will never demand payment by phone or text. Anyone who has already sent money should file a police report, contact their bank immediately, and save all texts and call logs for investigators.
