LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Court documents reveal new details in the moments before a 55-year-old man allegedly stole a car with a passenger sitting inside a car parked in a Walmart shopping center.
Harold Allen was arrested on Saturday, April 11, and will face open murder with a deadly weapon, grand larceny, and a kidnapping charge after stealing a running and parked car in the 4400 block of W. Charleston, between Decatur and Valley View boulevards.
A witness reported the rollover crash between a silver minivan and black sedan.
According to the arrest report, the witness told police it seemed like the driver in the black sedan was “trying to beat the light,” which officials believed did not align with Allen’s statement.
According to the arrest report, Allen told police his girlfriend brought him to Walmart, where he fell asleep inside the car. When he woke up and couldn’t find her, after searching inside the store, Allen returned to the parking lot, jumped inside the car, and began to drive.
Allen told police he was moving the car closer to the front of the store, but the gas pedal got stuck. Allen could not remember what kind of car he got inside of and “insisted no one else was inside the vehicle,” according to court documents.
The silver minivan had a driver and a passenger, and both were taken to the hospital. The driver suffered a neck and spine injury, court documents detailed.
The passenger in the sedan was identified as 37-year-old son, Benito Saragoza. FOX5 spoke to Saragoza’s mom, Deborah Requena, who walked outside of the store, unable to find her car.
