LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – Minimum wage in the state of Nevada will be increasing to $12 an hour starting July 1.
This will be the final minimum wage pay bump implemented by the passage of Assembly Bill 456 in 2019, which mandated increases of 75 cents to the minimum wage over a five-year period.
Another change will come in the form of Nevada Ballot Question 2, passed by voters in November 2022. It eliminates the two-tier minimum wage system which provided a reduction in the required minimum wage if an employer offered qualifying health benefits.
The bump in minimum wage will also benefit overtime pay.
Employees in Nevada earning one and a half times the minimum wage ($18 per hour) are eligible for overtime at one and one-half times their regular rate of pay for over 40 hours of work a week.
Employees earning less than $18 an hour are eligible for overtime at one and one-half times the employees regular rate of pay for over 8 hours of work in a 24-hour period, or, over 40 hours of work in a workweek.
