LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nevada’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.3% in March, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s March 2026 economic report.
The seasonally adjusted total number of nonfarm jobs in Nevada was 1,603,700, representing an increase of 1.8% over the past year and a decrease of 1,600 jobs since February.
The labor force increased by 2,729 employed individuals and 75 unemployed individuals compared to February. The labor force currently totals 1,700,832 individuals, an increase of 41,692 compared to March 2025.

Employment changes by metro area
Las Vegas employment decreased by 400 jobs since February and increased by 19,800 jobs since March 2025.
Reno employment increased by 400 jobs since February and increased by 6,200 jobs since March 2025.
Carson City employment witnessed no change since February and increased by 100 jobs since March 2025.
Industry changes
The two largest decreases in jobs were in Leisure and Hospitality, which dropped by 2,800, and Construction, which lost 2,600 jobs.
Professional and Business Services gained 1,900 jobs, followed by Education and Health Services, which added 1,600 jobs.
“This month’s report once again shows Nevada with a relatively rapid expansion in total jobs over the past year, a stable unemployment rate, and labor force participation remaining noticeably higher than the national average,” said David Schmidt, chief economist. “Compared to last month, jobs in Leisure & Hospitality and in Construction slipped somewhat, with those declines mostly offset by gains in Professional & Business Services and in Health Care.”
Year-over-year industry growth
Over the year, Professional and Business Services gained 12,100 jobs, Education and Health Services added 9,100 jobs, and Trade, Transportation and Utilities increased by 5,800 jobs.
Financial Activities decreased by 2,200 jobs and Other Services decreased by 1,000 jobs over the year.
Unemployment insurance claims
In March 2026, 10,779 initial claims for unemployment insurance were filed in Nevada, an increase of 34 claims from February when there were 10,745 claims.
