LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Henderson students are reporting they feel safer and more connected at school, according to new data presented to the Henderson City Council by Clark County School District leaders.
The Region Three superintendent said surveys of Henderson students show more than 8 out of 10 students now feel safe at school. That number has been climbing, especially in middle and high school.
Students rate statements such as “this school is safe” and “students feel safe in this school.” In grades six through eight, favorable responses rose to about 85% this year. In high school, safety ratings are now just over 85% as well.

Councilman weighs in
Henderson City Councilman Jim Sebock said the data reflects a reduction in fear among students.
“Police officers’ job is to reduce crime, but it’s also to reduce the fear of crime. And in short, that’s what this summary shows us — that you’re reducing the fear of the students coming into school,” Sebock said. “Because when it’s a safe environment, kids are going to just naturally learn and thrive and be focused on the job at hand versus their safety.”
District leaders also told the council they are seeing gains in how connected students feel to their schools. They will keep reporting those numbers to the city every quarter.
