LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A dashcam video showing a road rage incident in North Las Vegas has been viewed millions of times after the driver uploaded it to social media.
Rosemary Martin said she was driving home from a concert at AREA15 on Tuesday, April 7, when she exited I-15 at Cheyenne, and a red Tesla cut her off.
From that point forward, Martin said the people in the Tesla wanted to confront her and flashed a gun at her.
“I have an 8-year-old child at home who I just kept thinking I have to make it back home to her,” Martin said. “I grew up without a mom, so my biggest thing is that I’m there for my child 100% of the time. There is nothing in her life that I miss, and I’m definitely not going to miss things in her life due to someone’s road rage.”
Chase through city streets
Martin called 911 and told the dispatcher that a red Tesla was following her and someone had threatened her with a gun. She tried to get away, but the Tesla backed up in the roadway when she stopped her car. When she sped by, the Tesla followed.
The dispatcher began guiding her turn-by-turn to get to safety.
Martin reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour on city streets.
“That’s when I reach for my firearm, and you can hear me cock the firearm in the video, and I set it on my seat,” Martin said.
Martin told the dispatcher she was armed.
The Tesla pulled to the side of the road on 5th Street, waiting for Martin to pass. A passenger started to get out of the car, but then the car reversed toward her.
Martin sped away again. The Tesla continued to try to get her to pull over.
At more than 80 miles per hour, the Tesla moved in front of her and hit the brakes. Martin ran a red light at Carey to get away, almost hitting another vehicle.
Arriving at police station
The dispatcher guided Martin to the North Las Vegas Police Station across from North Las Vegas City Hall, where an officer was waiting.
The Tesla stopped chasing her and took off.
“I think that he did an amazing job,” Martin said of the dispatcher. “I would just say thank you to him and how well he handled himself.”
Martin said her husband is in the EMS system, so she had helped him learn the routes and how the grid system works.
The video has been viewed more than 16 million times on her TikTok account alone.
Police investigation
The red Tesla had a paper plate, and Martin said she couldn’t get all the numbers and knows there is a chance it could be fake.
She said on the left back side of the vehicle, there is yellow paint like the Tesla scraped against something.
North Las Vegas police said there is an ongoing investigation.
Police said if you find yourself in a similar situation, do not engage with the other driver, maintain a safe distance, avoid eye contact, and call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so. Police said do not drive home, as this could place you and others at risk.
