LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Relief may be on the way for Southern Nevada electric customers.
NV Energy filed a formal request with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada on Wednesday to lower electric rates for Southern Nevada customers starting October 1, 2026, according to an official release.
If approved, the filing would slash the utility company’s annual revenues by approximately $100.2 million and lower monthly bills across all major customer classes.
The utility company says under the new rate proposal, a typical single-family residential customer would see their monthly bill decrease by about $5.01, representing a 3.63% drop.
“Keeping energy affordable while maintaining a safe and reliable electric system is one of our highest priorities,” said Brandon Barkhuff, President and CEO of NV Energy. “As fuel and energy market costs change, these periodic adjustments help make sure customers benefit when those costs decline.”

The proposed quarterly rate adjustments vary slightly by customer service class:
- Residential Single-Family (RS): 3.63% decrease (roughly $5.01 per month)
- Residential Multi-Family (RM): 4.04% decrease (roughly $3.14 per month)
- General Service (GS): 3.95% decrease (roughly $3.00 per month)
- All Customer Classes Combined: 4.10% overall decrease
NV Energy, which is headquartered in Las Vegas and services more than 1.5 million customers statewide, generates a significant portion of its electricity through company-owned power plants and purchases the remainder from regional energy markets.
The costs of fuel and wholesale power are passed directly to Nevada consumers with no added profit markup for the utility. Because energy market prices fluctuate, the company is required to make quarterly rate filings with regulators to ensure customers neither overpay nor underpay for supply costs over time.
The proposed price drop is attributed to a recent decline in regional energy and fuel supply costs, according to officials.
