Over 1,100 still without power as cleanup, restoration continues

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – NV Energy provided an update on the ongoing power restoration efforts around the valley after severe windstorms on Tuesday.

As of Thursday morning, approximately 1,164 people are without power, down from a peak of around 30,000 customers on Tuesday.

Crews are expected to restore power to several smaller areas before noon today, and did “tremendous” work overnight along Jones Boulevard, officials say.

Tropicana Avenue still requires extensive repairs, although crews are expected to restore power for some on Thursday night and into the morning, with full restoration expected around 2 p.m. on Friday.

NV Energy also confirmed that the outages were primarily caused by severe winds and gusts reaching around 70 mph, which knocked over trees and other objects onto power lines.

Another crew swap is also underway to continue the 24/7 work to restore power quickly and safely.

Residents in need of resources are urged to head to the emergency shelter set up at the Las Vegas Convention Center, or sign up for MyAccount outage alerts on the NV Energy website.
