RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Officials with the Tahoe National Forest are answering questions about why a portion of the forest remains closed despite the Floriston Fire being 96% contained.
They say that despite the fire’s containment numbers, work on the fire is not yet complete.
During efforts to suppress the fire, several miles of dozer line destroyed popular forest trails and OHV routes in the area.
Crews and heavy equipment continue to work in the area to rehabilitate the routes.
Forestofficials also say they have encountered several motorcycle/OHV vs equipment incursions within the closure area. They are now asking the public to stay out of the area for safety concerns.
They say it appears likely that some trails, including Highball located along Boca Ridge, will remain closed through 2027 while reconstruction continues.
