LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Clark County Deputy District Attorney was reportedly driving more than twice the legal speed limit before she was stopped and arrested for DUI and reckless driving last week.
According to an impaired driving report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Kayla Farzaneh-Simmons was arrested on January 7 at approximately 5:07 p.m. following a traffic stop at the intersection of W. Sunset Rd. and S. Rainbow Blvd.
The report stated that a Metro officer operating as LVMPD Traffic Unit DUI86 saw a white Kia SUV heading west on Sunset after Jones at “a high rate of speed.” The report noted that the vehicle was paced at 73 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone.
Officers initiated a traffic stop on Sunset, west of Rainbow.
“I immediately observed that the driver had watery and slightly bloodshot eyes,” the officer noted in the report. The suspect identified herself and the officer said that “she spoke with slightly slurred speech.” He also reported a “strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle.”
When asked how much she had to drink, Farzaneh-Simmons answered, “Not much at all.” She exited the vehicle when asked to do so but declined to perform a field sobriety test. She agreed to voluntarily submit to an evidentiary blood sample at the request of police.
An officer on-scene said that when he helped the suspect back into her car, “she appeared to almost fall” and he went to assist her.
“I am not that drunk, I promise,” she told him.
After her blood was tested, the suspect was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and booked on a pair of misdemeanor charges. A Clark County spokesperson confirmed that she was hired in September 2022 and is still employed by the county.
She has an appearance in Clark County Justice Court scheduled for May 6.
