LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — As Memorial Day weekend traffic packed the I-15 corridor, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers in the Primm District stepped up enforcement as drivers streamed back toward California.

Officials say troopers stayed visible on the southbound shoulder near mile marker 1 to deter motorists from using the shoulder to pass.

Troopers issued 13 citations for shoulder driving, including one to a southbound commercial semi-truck, officials said. Another driver cited for shoulder driving was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested.

The activity comes as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported nearly 80 arrests and more than 3,020 citations issued over the Memorial Day weekend.
