LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – RTC of Southern Nevada wants your input on public transit and options for commuters as the Las Vegas Valley’s population keeps surging, and the local resident’s average commute time continues to grow.

There is a virtual town hall and survey available for residents to weigh in.

Some startling statistics regarding population and projections:

º The Valley’s population will grow from 2.3 million to 3 million by 2050

º In 2022, the average commuter spent 24.6 minutes to get to work

º From 2016 to 2020, there were more than 174,000 crashes involving vehicles, pedestrians or other commuters

FOX5 has reported extensively on the deadly trends on our roads, and traffic experts across Southern Nevada attribute the rise in pedestrian and vehicle fatalities, in part, to more residents moving to the region.

“With the growth that we are currently forecast to experience in Southern Nevada, we have to strategically expand and diversify our transportation system in Southern Nevada. We can’t keep building our way out of it with more lanes for our cars. We need new options, and the public can help us decide which options we should move forward with,” said Andrew Kjellman, Senior Director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization at RTCSNV.

Residents have until March 31 to participate, and people who complete a survey have a chance to win a $100 gift card. Click here for more information about the virtual town hall.
