LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – North Las Vegas police arrested a man on DUI charges early Monday morning after finding his daughter in the backseat.

Around 1 a.m., officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department approached a driver who appeared slumped over the wheel of a black 2016 Mazda6, near Goldfield Street and Copper Pine Avenue.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Jordan Shaw, who was described as “slumped over and not alert” with “drug paraphernalia” in plain view. His 2-year-old daughter was also observed in the backseat.

Officers attempted to wake up Shaw and located even more drug paraphernalia and a suspected fentanyl pill.

Shaw was placed under arrest for DUI, possession of narcotics, and child abuse. He was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center.

Child Protective Services was also notified and began an independent investigation. The child’s mother was also contacted, and would later arrive at the scene to take custody of the child.
