LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas man called police and admitted to stabbing someone on an RTC bus, a Metro arrest report shows.
FOX5 obtained an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for Maurice Carroll “Smith.” Carroll is accused of a stabbing at Eastern and Stewart avenues the night of Oct. 22.
According to witness interviews and surveillance video, a group of three men boarded an RTC bus.
The arrest report says they were intoxicated, and may have spoke racial slurs in English and Spanish. Carroll was angered by their conversation.
Police said Carroll confronted the group and told them to stop talking. One of the men stood up and started to argue with Carroll.
The fight turned physical. The bus driver would pull over and open the doors.
At one point during the fight, Carroll thought the man was grabbing a weapon from his backpack. He told police he used a knife to stab the man two times.
After the stabbing, Carroll left the bus, dropped the knife by a brush nearby, and called police.
In the call to dispatch, Carroll told police he was “jumped” by three men who were saying racial slurs at him.
When officers arrived and interviewed Carroll, he said the stabbing was in self-defense and explained where he dropped the weapon.
During the investigation, police did not find any weapons on the victim. First responders arrived and transported the man to UMC where he had emergency surgery and is recovering.
After LVMPD’s investigation, officers arrested Carroll for three counts of battery and attempted murder. According to court records, he is due in court on Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
