LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Metro sergeant in charge of a unit on the Strip is now facing charges for a series of questionable arrests under his command.

Last week, FOX5 showed you the evidence presented to a grand jury that lead to a number of charges against him. This week, we are hearing from the Nevada branch of the American Civil Liberties Union.

While they praised the Internal Affairs process that led to the arrest of Sergeant Kevin Menon who spent ten years on the streets of Las Vegas, they continue to have questions about his unit and how the investigation will move forward.

“It is disgusting and it is disgraceful. This is not how anyone wants their tax dollars spent but beyond that, this is not how anybody believes a police department should operate,” contended Athar Haseebullah, Executive Director of the ACLU of Nevada.

In one video presented to the grand jury, Menon can be seen shoulder checking a man on a pedestrian bridge over the Strip. Two uniformed Metro officers follow the man and detain him.

“We have all seen what has happened on this video. They are set up videos affectively goading specific people into fights so they could be stopped,” Haseebullah explained.

Haseebullah says the ACLU is actively trying to learn more about how often this happened. The grand jury video highlights several different incidents.

“Who knows how many people got railroaded…This is just a reminder that you can’t blindly believe what any government entity says,” Haseebullah asserted.

It was a fellow officer who came forward to report the wrongdoing and Haseebullah gives credit to Metro for not sweeping Menon’s actions under the rug.

“I am glad they took some level of action once it was raised and went through the Internal Affairs process,” Haseebullah shared.

Menon did not carry out the unlawful stops and searches alone. The ACLU has put in public records request trying to obtain more information.

“For Metro to put out a report publicly sharing how many arrests he was involved with, not just where he was the arresting officer, how many arrests was he involved with, how many incidents was he a participant in, who else was involved in this…make this transparent,” Haseebullah demanded.

FOX5 reached out to both Metro and the District Attorney’s office this week. We asked if any other officers facing discipline or charges or are under investigation? Are all of Menon’s cases during his ten-year career being reviewed?

Metro sent a one-line response: “This is an ongoing investigation.”

The Clark County District Attorney did not respond to our request.

Menon’s home was raided last week and he was arrested again, this time on two counts of possession of child pornography. Menon has posted bail.
