LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A motorcyclist was killed after speeding, over-braking and hitting another car, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The crash happened on Dec. 28 at about 7:40 p.m. on Tropicana Avenue east of Spencer Street. According to police, a 2017 Suzuki GSX-R100 was traveling eastbound on Tropicana “at an excessive speed” while a 2011 Honda CRV making a U-turn nearby. LVMPD said the motorcyclist overapplied his front brake, causing him to overturn and hitting the right side of the Honda. Police said the man’s motorcycle slid for more than 600 feet.

The motorcyclist, only identified as a 43-year-old man, was pronounced dead on scene. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the man once next of kin is notified.

The driver of the Honda stayed on scene and didn’t show signs of impairment, LVMPD said.

The motorcyclist’s death was marked the 157th traffic-related fatality in LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2024. The crash remains under investigation.
