LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Spring Valley neighbors say within hours of a clear out conducted by Clark County Code Enforcement, the encampment behind their home returned.
Last Thursday, FOX5 joined Commissioner Michael Naft, Clark County Code Enforcement, Metro Police, and Help of Southern Nevada as they met with neighbors to discuss long term solutions for the wash between Rainbow and Jones.
Neighbors say they worry the fires at the encampment could eventually spread onto their properties.
“Some of the encampments moved, but most of them have come back,” one neighbor says, who wanted to stay anonymous. “And, then the encampments that were behind my house actually grew in number.”
Another neighbor, Olivia Vallee, says she’s thankful the group came out, but was hopeful the problem would be resolved that day.
“I looked over and the encampment was gone, I was thrilled, I thought, ‘oh great, they’re gone,’” Vallee says. “Then, I looked over to the right, and they were inside the wash, the encampment was right behind my house. It only went 30 feet.”
Vallee says she contacted Commissioner Naft’s Office, who said they’d ask Metro Police to return to the area.
In one year, Clark County says they’ve cleared the wash between Rainbow and Jones nine times.
FOX5 reached out to Clark County about the encampments returning, and has not heard back.
