LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The past weekend, Las Vegas Metro Police said they confiscated 2.5 tons of illegal fireworks.

LVMPD said from June 20 to 22. Metro and task force partners issued 56 citations and confiscated almost 2.5 tons or 5,000 pounds of illegal fireworks entering Clark County.

These types of traffic stops and enforcement will continue through the July 4 weekend, Metro says.

“Only fireworks labeled ‘Safe & Sane’ are allowed and only from June 28 to July 4 when sold by permitted local nonprofit groups,” police said. Illegal fireworks are not just dangerous. They cause fires, injuries, air pollution, and serious disruptions to neighbors, veterans, pets, and the entire community.”

Metro says those with illegal fireworks could face a minimum $500 fine and up to $10,000 for large amounts.
