Police release body camera video of Reno resort mass shooting

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Reno police on Tuesday released body camera video from a July mass shooting that left three people dead and three others wounded.

Law enforcement officials on Tuesday released body camera video from the deadly mass shooting that took place July 28 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.

The gunman, later identified as Dakota Hawver, 26, opened fire, killing three people and wounding three others before police shot the suspect and arrested him, officials said.

“While the investigation is still in progress, it’s important to provide accurate, timely information to prevent misunderstandings and foster stronger relationships,” Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance said.

The video was posted on the Reno Police Department YouTube page.

According to officials, Hawver fired at police before officers opened fire, shooting him multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Chris Johnson, public information officer for the Reno Police Department, introduced the body camera video by saying it was released to offer “a clearer understanding of the events” based on what police say they know so far.

Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
