Nearly 150 bodies from Las Vegas funeral home identified, transferred

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nearly 150 bodies that were recovered from a Las Vegas funeral home have been identified and transferred to a different funeral home, officials say.

146 bodies from McDermott’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services are now in the care of Davis Funeral Home, according to the Clark County coroner.

“The team at Davis is working through each case with care, compassion, and urgency,” the coroner said. “However, as you can imagine, the scale of this situation is overwhelming. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as the staff navigates this difficult process.”

FOX5’s Victoria Saha reported on McDermott’s last week. A neighbor to the funeral home said it started to smell for the past three to five months.

“None of my customers or friends knew what that smell was,” said Michael Trotta, owner of Vinyldude.com.

FOX5 obtained a report that said one body was there 252 days after the person died. Another example was a baby at the funeral home for 54 days.

Saha visited the location and tried to get answers from the owner, Christopher Grant, asking him why it took so long for the bodies to be cremated, and to explain how a body could be in the funeral home’s possession for more than 200 days.

Grant did not provide any answers.
