LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Clark County School District celebrated the opening of two new elementary schools Thursday, with district leaders and staff cutting the ribbon at Cyril Wengert Elementary near Nellis Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.
Wengert Elementary is one of two schools that opened for the 2026-27 school year. The second, Helen M. Smith Elementary, is located near Charleston and Rainbow Boulevards.
District leaders said the new campuses were designed with learning in mind.

“Students can look above them and see how building systems work,” said Kimberly Swoboda, principal of Wengert Elementary. “They can discover geometry and the angles, shapes, windows, patterns and the patterns incorporated throughout its architecture.”
CCSD is also breaking ground on two additional schools: Indian Springs and Gibson Leadership Academy. Both campuses are expected to be completed in time for the 2027–28 school year.
All four projects were funded through CCSD’s 2015 Capital Improvement Plan.
