LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Southern Nevada Health District has dropped its plan to raise septic tank permit costs after months of public backlash.
In a special meeting on Wednesday, the Board of Health voted unanimously to withdraw all proposed regulations tied to new septic system fees, keeping existing rules and costs in place for thousands of homeowners.

“As Chair of the Board of Health, I took seriously the responsibility to evaluate the feedback we received and determine the best path forward,” said Scott Black, Chair of the Southern Nevada District Board of Health and North Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem.
“After careful consideration, the Board decided to withdraw these proposed updates. We heard clearly from our community, and that input directly shaped this decision.”
Residents had warned the changes could force them to pay thousands of dollars to update their systems, saying the added expense would be unaffordable.
Community members continued to show up to voice their concerns during Wednesday’s meeting, where about 1,000 residents showed up to the event.
Health District officials note that they will continue to safeguard water quality and public health through existing regulations, monitoring and enforcement programs.
