LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — MGM Resorts employees delivered hundreds of meals to TSA staff at Harry Reid International Airport Wednesday morning as the agency warned many officers are about to miss paychecks due to a partial government shutdown.

TSA is part of the Department of Homeland Security, whose funding has been tied up in a congressional dispute over the president’s immigration crackdown.

MGM cites impact on travel and tourism

MGM’s Senior Vice President of Global Security, John Flynn, called the donation a small token of appreciation as workers keep lines moving and travelers safe during spring break and March Madness.

“We depend upon travel and tourism. If people can show up and they have a seamless travel experience, we get more people to the strip, more people in our communities,” Flynn said. “There’s a trickle down effect to the entire economy. It’s very important. It’s crucial that these workers are doing their jobs and showing up and we can’t thank them enough.”

Not the first time

This is not the first time MGM has stepped in during a government shutdown. During the last shutdown, just months ago, the company delivered about 700 free meals to TSA workers at the airport.
