LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV softball team will travel to New Mexico for a midweek Mountain West doubleheader on Wednesday, April 8. The Rebels and Lobos will start game one at 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT.

Last meeting: Last season,the Rebels collected the series 2-1 over the Lobos during senior weekend at Eller Media Stadium.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO: The Lobos are coming off a three-game series sweep over Boise State and head into Wednesday’s doubleheader with a 18-19 overall record and 6-6 MW record. Miracle McKenzie leads New Mexico at the plate with a .360 batting average. She has a a team-high 36 hits, which include 14 home runs. McKenzie also leads the team in RBI with 36. Allie Williams is second on the squad in RBI with 31 and in home runs with seven. In the circle, Caitlin Benningfield has made 21 appearances with 91.0 innings of work. Benningfield has a 3.00 ERA and a 7-6 overall record. She’s made 13 starts and has pitched four complete games including a shutout and has three saves on the season. McKenna Guest has made 23 appearances with 89.0 innings of work. Gues has made 15 starts and pitched five complete games. She also has two saves on the season.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD: The UNLV softball team dropped 10-5 against Colorado State in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels still earned the series 2-1 over the Rams. For the series, Keyannah Chavez batted a combined .778 with a slugging of .889 and on-base percentage of .800. She had a double and three RBI and also crossed the plate three times through the series. Chavez is now on a nine-game hitting and on-base streak. Natalie Turner batted a combined. 700 against the Rams through three games. She had an .800 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage. Turner had a double, an RBI and crossed the plate once for the series. She has now reached base in 13 straight games. Yanina Sherwood and Lauren Fettic collected the wins in the circle against the Rams. Sherwood made two appearances throwing 5.1 innings, only allowed five hits and struck out three. Sherwood pitched her first shutout of the season in game two. She did not allow a run in her two appearances. Fettic additionally made two appearances, getting the start in game one and game three. She pitched a combined 10.1 innings and had an ERA of 2.71. Fettic held the Rams to only bat .237.
NEXT SERIES: UNLV comes home to host Utah State for a two-game series on Saturday, April 11 – Sunday, April 12 for its Strikeout Cancer weekend. The Rebels and Aggies will open the two-game series on Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m.
REBELS’ SQUAD: UNLV returns 10 letterwinners, including three position starters and two pitchers. All-Mountain West honorable mention Yanina Sherwood returns along with Charelle Aki, Gwyn Burnett, Mantha Hatzenbeller, Brooke Pisciotta, Maddie Scott, Diamond Sefe, Maggie Vasa, Amelia Weber and Bri Williams. The Rebels welcome 13 newcomers to the squad which include: freshmen Taryn Calderon, Lauren Fettic, Hailey Gilbertson, Lyla Gonzalez, Brooklyn Heil and Sophie Stockam; sophomores: Presley Barnes, Raegen Everett and Camryn Johnson; juniors: Rachel Cook and Emma Wardlaw; senior Keyannah Chavez and graduate student Natalie Turner.
UNLV brings back Charelle Aki, Bri Williams and Maddie Scott who were among the top seven hitters from last season. Aki batted a .311 with five doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI. Williams posted a .262 batting average with three doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI. Scott played all 49 games and started 43 and batted a .223 with five doubles, team-high three triples and 10 RBI.
LAST YEAR: The Rebels had an overall record of 24-25 and a 7-15 Mountain West record. Four Rebels collected All-Mountain West honors. Ariana Martinez picked up All-MW first team, Jesse Farrell was named All-MW second team and Karmyna Becerra and Yanina Sherwood earned All-MW honorable mention.
