CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has signed a new order to review the state’s regulations.

Lombardo says his new order, signed on Monday, aims to reduce what he says are unnecessary regulations and red tape.

The new order builds on an order signed into being in January of 2023 ordering a freeze on new regulations and requiring a review of existing regulations. More than 900 regulatory changes were approved as a result of that order, Lombardo says.

“From the beginning of my administration, I have been clear that government should protect the public without creating unnecessary barriers for Nevada’s families and businesses,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “Our first regulatory review demonstrated that we could eliminate outdated and burdensome regulations while maintaining important protections for Nevadans. Executive Order 2026-003 builds on that work and ensures we continue looking for ways to make government more efficient, accountable, and responsive.”

Under the order, the executive branch will again review the regulations they enforce and work directly with businesses and other partners to find areas of improvement around regulations.

Each entity will hold at least one publicly noticed stakeholder meeting by Oct. 29 of this year, with recommendations being submitted to Lombardo by New Years Eve.

Lombardo says he will then take action on regulations in 2027.

“My goal is straightforward, Nevada should be one of the best places in the country to start, operate, and grow a business,” Governor Lombardo continued. “That means regularly asking whether our regulations are necessary, whether they still make sense, and whether there is a better way to accomplish their purpose without unnecessarily burdening Nevadans. We made substantial progress in 2023, and this Executive Order is about continuing that work.”
