LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Nevada Police Foundation is asking for additional funding to expand the State Law Enforcement Memorial after running out of space.
According to a release sent Friday, the foundation explained that the memorial has run out of room after the names of 158 fallen officers were added.
However, another name needs to be this year, according to Detective Brian Howe, coordinator for the Nevada State Law Enforcement Memorial and board member of the Nevada Police Foundation.
MORE ON FOX5: North Las Vegas officer killed in shootout identified
North Las Vegas Police Officer Jason Roscow was shot and killed Feb. 4, 2025 as he attempted to make contact with an individual who was reported to have brandished a gun at a North Las Vegas resident.
When Roscow attempted to contact the subject, the man ignored him and fled. After locating the man, the subject refused commands to stop and opened fire on Roscow, who later died from his injuries.
Roscow’s name will be temporarily etched on the memorial until permanent additional panels can be added for Roscow and future names.
The memorial receives no funding from any governmental agency, and the foundation is seeking support from the public to fund the proposed construction, continuing maintenance and upkeep. The planned construction will add two panels to the memorial.
Michelle Bays, chair of the board of directors of the Nevada Police Foundation, said $100,000 needs to be raised to fund the immediate construction and ensure the memorial is maintained into the future.
“These men and women paid the ultimate price to ensure that Nevadans could live in a safe community,” Bays said. “We have a duty to these heroes and their families to honor their sacrifices and ensure their stories are never forgotten.”
Daniel Coverley, Douglas County sheriff and president of the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association, said he prays the day will never come when additional names will be added, but that is not realistic. Coverley urged Nevadans to step forward and support the memorial needs as well as the Nevada Police Foundation.
