LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — President Trump flew into Las Vegas Thursday for a roundtable discussion on the no tax on tips policy at a downtown hotel.

Trump took the stage at the AC Hotel in Symphony Park before a packed room. The roundtable focused on tax cuts passed as part of his “Big Beautiful Bill”, including no tax on tips.

“And this is the birthplace of a little idea known as no tax on tips,” Trump said. “A young waitress came up to me during dinner, and she said, ‘Sir, we should have no tax on tips.’”

Trump said he worked with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to make it happen.

“I said, ‘sir, where did you come up with this idea of no tax?’” Bessent said. “He was like I was out in Nevada. I saw this waitress just for you. Working herself to death… She ought to be able to keep this money. She is working so hard.”

Trump first promised the policy in Las Vegas during a campaign rally at Sunset Park. Now law, the administration says millions of Americans used this new tax code.

“Las Vegas is the home of the largest concentration of tipped workers anywhere in the country, anywhere in the world, actually,” Trump said.

Tax refunds reported across service industry

“And thanks to our tax cuts this week, thousands of Nevada waiters, waitresses, casino dealers, bartenders, bellmen, barbers, received the biggest tax refunds of their entire lives,” Trump said.

Joining the president on stage were those benefiting from changes to the tax code, including an LVMPD officer, a makeup artist and a longtime bartender.

“And here in Las Vegas, many workers have reported refunds of 5, 6, 7, $8,000 or more,” Trump said. “It’s all from no tax on tips alone.”

The administration says 53 million Americans took advantage of new tax cuts when filing their taxes.
