LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The head of the Las Vegas police officers’ union says all officers are safe after a shooting in the central valley that ended with a suspect in body armor taken into custody.
It was reported around 3:23 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Las Vegas Police Protective Association President Steve Grammas says one of their officers was doing proactive patrols near a wash by Harmon and Arville when he spotted a man acting suspiciously. When the officer tried to stop him, the man took off running.
Grammas says that during the chase, the suspect pulled out a gun and “brandished a firearm” at some point, forcing the officer to open fire.
Despite being shot, the man kept running.
According to Grammas, the suspect was wearing body armor and appeared “prepared for an engagement.”
Additional officers moved in and used beanbag shotguns before the man was finally taken into custody in a nearby parking lot.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say the shooting happened around 3:23 a.m. and confirm the man was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life‑threatening.
No officers were hurt.
Metro says this is the department’s fifth officer‑involved shooting of 2026. Under department policy, the name of the officer will be released after 48 hours.
LVMPD’s Force Investigation Team is now handling the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers. Drivers in the Harmon and Arville area may see temporary road closures while investigators work the scene.
