LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Construction on the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall began nearly 60 years ago on May 15, 1967—an important step in building what would become one of the world’s leading convention centers.
It was the LVCC’s first major expansion, reflecting Las Vegas’ growing focus on meetings, conventions and business travel.
At the time, the venue was best known for its silver-domed rotunda, which served as the main structure until it was demolished in 1990.

The LVCVA Archive has preserved Las Vegas history and promoted tourism in Southern Nevada since 1947.
That history came full circle in December 2025, when a $600 million renovation of the LVCC’s original campus was completed.
The updated facility marks a new era for global business events, offering a world-class convention experience that matches Las Vegas’ growth.
