Police said Hughes’ vehicle hit another car before leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole and wall.

Police also said Hughes’ 10-year-old son was in the vehicle at the time.

Hughes appeared in custody for a trial-readiness status check in Clark County court on Tuesday, July 7.

The defense attorney said Hughes requested to waive speedy-trial rights. The judge granted the request, noting the seriousness of the underlying allegations, the need for medical records, and the quick turnaround after Hughes’ recent arraignment.

Hughes is facing multiple charges connected to the crash, including two felony charges of reckless driving, a felony charge of child abuse, and a misdemeanor for driving without a license.

Hughes’ next court appearance is set for Dec. 1. And his trial date was set for January 4.
