LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was recently arrested after a family disturbance at a Fourth of July gathering, according to a newly released arrest report.
Jerry Wheeler was arrested on July 4 and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of battery constituting domestic violence, according to a release by the police department.
The report says officers responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a home in the Enterprise area.
The caller, identified as Wheeler’s wife’s sister, told dispatch an intoxicated man, later identified as Wheeler, was involved and family members were trying to calm the situation, the report stated.
Investigators later found that the incident happened during a family gathering at the grandparents’ home and that Wheeler had allegedly been drinking heavily.
Family members reported Wheeler attempted to leave in a white Kia Soul while intoxicated, but relatives stopped him and secured his keys, according to the report.

Witnesses described two separate alleged assaults: one in which Wheeler reportedly pushed his sister from behind while she was holding her 10‑month‑old baby, and another in which his wife said he pushed her to the ground near the garage.
The report also notes Wheeler’s wife said he grabbed her by the throat/neck area as he threw her down, but she reported no strangulation or airway restriction.
Police said there was no usable video from a garage camera in the report.
However, two cellphone videos recorded after the incident showed the restraint scene and crying, not the initial alleged pushes.
Court records show Wheeler was released after posting $3,000 and was not present during a July 15 court hearing.
During the hearing, a judge said he was not inclined to increase bail, but ordered alcohol monitoring.
The state also asked for a strict no-contact order, especially with the sister and child. The judge instead ordered no negative contact, requiring respectful behavior and no violence or police involvement, and added that the court could consider a full no-contact order later if more information or victim input is provided.
Wheeler is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, July 29.
