LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported 64 traffic fatalities in the Las Vegas area between Jan. 1 and July 21, 2026, with pedestrians accounting for the largest share of deaths.

LVMPD released the figures Tuesday, noting that four additional lives were lost on local roads during the most recent week.

Fatality breakdown by type

According to the department’s traffic fatality report, deaths by category include:

  • Pedestrian: 28
  • Motorcycle/Moped: 18
  • Driver: 12
  • Passenger: 3
  • Electric Conveyance: 2
  • Bicyclist: 1

Top causal factors

LVMPD identified three top causal factors in the fatalities:

  • Pedestrian error
  • Failure to yield right of way
  • Excessive speed
