LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The El Paso Chihuahuas (Matachines) defeated the Las Vegas Aviators (Reyes de Plata), 11-7, in the opener of the six-game series before a crowd of 5,097 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
El Paso improved to 43-53 overall and 8-13 in the second half. Las Vegas dropped to 57-38 overall (Triple-best record) and 13-9 in the second half.
El Paso broke the 3-3 tie and scored eight unanswered runs to lead 11-3 after 7 ½ innings.
Chihuahuas center fielder Dustin Harris was 4-for-6, RBI, two runs scored. Designated hitter Nick Solak was 2-for-4, triple, HBP, HR, 4 RBI and right fielder Bryce Johnson was 2-for-3, double, two walks, RBI, two stolen bases, two runs scored.
Las Vegas right-hander Jake Garland pitched 2.0 innings in the no decision. He allowed 3 hits, 3 runs (1 earned), walked two and struck out 1 on 47 pitches (28 strikes).
El Paso right-hander Sean Boyle pitched 4.2 innings in the no decision. He allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, walked 1 and struck out 4 on 83 pitches (58 strikes).
Aviators left fielder Michael Stefanic was 2-for-4, walk, stolen base, run scored. Right fielder Jared Dickey was 2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI and shortstop Drew Swift was 2-for-5, 2 RBI, run scored.
