LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Eighth Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada is warning residents about a jury duty scam circulating in the community.
A local resident reported receiving a text message stating they were “NOT required to report for jury duty on July 16, 2026,” followed by a phone call from an individual impersonating a law enforcement officer and demanding cash to clear alleged warrants.

What the scam involves
The caller claimed the victim had failed to appear for jury duty and owed two misdemeanor fines of $1,700 each. The caller refused to provide an address unless the victim prepared cash for delivery, stating the warrants would be “unfrozen” once payment was made.
It has not been confirmed whether the fraudulent text and call originated from the same source.
What the court says
The court said it does not request payment by phone, does not demand cash bonds, and does not instruct residents to meet at undisclosed locations to resolve alleged warrants.
The court outlined the following guidance for residents:
- The court or law enforcement will never call to demand payment for a warrant, including warrants related to jury duty.
- Court personnel will never ask residents to meet in person to make a payment, including on courthouse steps.
- The court will never solicit money by text, phone call, or email, nor request payment through prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, Apple Pay, or other specific methods.
- The court will never ask for personal information such as Social Security numbers by text, phone, or email.
