LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police say drones first located an armed suspect before officers arrived, ultimately ending with both an officer and the suspect killed.
Undersheriff Andrew Walsh provided additional details regarding the deadly shooting that took officer Austin Abdelnabi’s life. The suspect, who died at the scene, was identified as 21-year-old Angel Tywan Lucas Lindsey.

A business owner first called LVMPD’s dispatch just before 4 p.m. in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue, near Mountain Vista.
“[His] face is fully covered, he has a gun and is walking down Tropicana and Merrill,” the caller said.
Drones were first to locate the suspect. Walsh said Lindsey was found near Mountain Vista under the I-11.
Video from the drones showed Lindsey was armed with a handgun that had an extended magazine.
Abdelnabi and Officer Enrique Molinet were en route to his location.

Walsh said Abdelnabi arrived first. He activated his emergency lights and exited his car. Walsh said Lindsey immediately charged at him, opened fire, and struck Abdelnabi eight times.
Molinet arrived shortly after. He stopped and exited his patrol car behind Abdelnabi’s. A shootout happened between Lindsey and Molinet, and the suspect was struck in the chest. Walsh said Molinet was armed with a 9mm handgun and he fired his weapon six times.
Additional officers arrived at the scene and provided immediate aid to Abdelnabi. Clark County Fire arrived and continued to provide aid as he was transported to UMC. He later died at the hospital.
Officers took the suspect into custody and provided aid. Investigation revealed he died at the scene from the police shooting and a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
According to LVMPD’s early investigation, Walsh said Lindsey fired 15 rounds: one round in the chamber, and additional rounds in the extended magazine. Walsh said he also had two additional loaded magazines, one containing 18 rounds and another with 28 rounds.
Police said he purchased the firearm legally.
If Lindsey survived, Walsh said he would have faced murder, with a victim being a first responder, and attempted murder. Police said Lindsey does not have a criminal history, but had previous interactions with police for mental health and well-being responses.
Police investigation revealed Abdelnabi did not fire any rounds during the incident.
When Walsh took questions from the media, he thanked the community for the support.

“We have a tough week ahead of us,” he said. “The entire workforce is impacted by this. Thank you for the support.”
He said Officer Molinet is experiencing “trauma, times 100.”
“Every emotion you can think of, and everything you’ve heard or read about trauma, he’s experiencing that, times 100,” Walsh said. “We’re all damaged beyond repair.”
Funeral services have been announced for Officer Austin Abdelnabi. A public funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Central Church, located at 1001 New Beginnings Drive in Henderson, Nevada.
Walsh said this was the 9th officer-involved shooting so far in 2026, and the 6th fatal. At this same time last year, there were four police shootings, and three of those were fatal.
