LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is monitoring labor negotiations between paratransit contractor Transdev and Teamsters Local 631, which represents paratransit employees. A planned strike could affect paratransit operations as early as midnight Wednesday, Aug. 12.

What would change if a strike occurs
If a strike begins at midnight, several paratransit services would be affected:
- Reservations: Next-day bookings only. Same-day and advance reservations would not be available.
- Subscription trips: Suspended. Riders must schedule through the RTC Call Center.
- myrideRTCpara app: Unavailable for booking. All ride requests must go through the RTC Call Center.
- Microtransit and on-demand service: Suspended.
- SilverRide and Flexible Demand Response (FDR): Suspended.
Traditional RTC bus service would operate as normal and would not be affected.
What riders can do now
RTC said it is preparing for a range of possible scenarios to keep service running as efficiently as possible. Customers who can travel independently are encouraged to plan alternative transportation, including:
- Ride On-Demand
- Non-dedicated services such as UZURV and SilverRide
- Traditional RTC Transit
- Ridesharing alternatives such as Uber, Lyft and taxis
- Carpooling with friends and family
Information about these services is available at the RTC website or by calling 702-228-4800. RTC said call volumes may be higher than usual and asked customers to allow extra time when calling.
What negotiators said
Tommy Blitsch, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 631, said discussions with Transdev continued Tuesday afternoon.
“This afternoon we had discussions with Transdev about reaching an agreement by midnight tonight,” Blitsch said. “Company representatives are traveling to Las Vegas for in-person meetings and we will continue negotiations later today. We will update you as we have more information. We can even say that we hope to reach a fair agreement.”
Teamsters Local 631 also released a statement regarding Transdev’s contract offer.
“Transdev’s Last, Best, and Final Offer fails to meet the economic, operational, and contractual standards required to reach a fair and equitable agreement for our members,” the union said. “The proposal does not satisfy the wage, pension, working-conditions, and equity requirements necessary to secure ratification.”
