HENDERSON, Nev. (FOX5) — The Henderson Police Department will participate in the 11th Joining Forces traffic enforcement initiative targeting distracted drivers from Aug. 14 through Sept. 1.
Joining Forces is a statewide law enforcement program in which agencies work together to enforce distracted driving laws.
Nevada law prohibits drivers from using a cell phone or other electronic device at any time while their vehicle is in operation, including when stopped at a red light. Drivers may use a hands-free headset or Bluetooth to make calls while driving.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving encompasses three types of distraction: visual, which involves taking eyes off the road; manual, which involves taking hands off the wheel; and cognitive, which involves taking one’s mind off driving.
Texting or talking on the phone while driving creates all three types of distraction simultaneously, increasing the risk of serious or fatal crashes, according to NHTSA.
The Henderson Police Department received $174,500 in grant funding for enhanced enforcement through the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety for the 2026 Joining Forces program.
