RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Containment on both the Bug and Stallion Fires is increasing, with the Bug Fire sitting at 31% and the Stallion sitting at 44% as of Friday morning.
BLM Nevada says fire crews are attacking both fires aggressively to allow local residents in the evacuated areas to return home as soon as possible.
They say the southern flank of the Bug Fire near Cold Springs is now fully secured, while their securing of the fire’s northwest flank allowed US395 to reopen.
Evacuation orders have been lifted for portions of Red Rock Road and Hungry Valley.
BLM Nevada says Thursday’s rainfall aided crews who were attacking the edge of the fires. Crews reported strong progress on the southern and northern flanks of the Bug Fire.
Fire officials say that, in the fight against the Stallion Fire, crews were able to secure an additional perimeter on the eastern side of the fire towards Palomino Valley.
BLM Nevada says that while cooler forecasted temperatures and higher humidity will moderate fire behavior, winds of up to 40 miles an hour are possible and could push the fire in new directions without warning.
