LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A top Las Vegas public works official is stepping down as new questions arise about his ties to two city workers, one of whom is now accused of murder.
The city confirmed that Deputy Director of Public Works Matthew Meyer has resigned, with his last day set for Sept. 8.
The announcement follows newly released records showing Meyer had been in contact with city employees Joey McLean and Brysen Kim.
Kim is accused of shooting and killing McLean in June. Police say the two city workers were involved in an ongoing dispute.

Email confirms resignation
An email obtained from the city, sent by Acting Public Works Director Michael Cunningham on Aug. 11, confirms Meyer’s resignation.
“After almost 13 years of service, Matthew Meyer is heading into a new chapter of his career,” Cunningham wrote. “His last day with the City of Las Vegas will be on September 8th and his last day in the office will be on August 20th.”
Cunningham said he would work with the City Manager’s Office on an interim plan and develop a transition plan going forward.
Lawsuit planned
Last week, McLean’s widow announced her plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city, calling her husband’s death “completely preventable.”
