LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The celebration of southern Nevada’s aviation history will continue at the new Southern Nevada State Office Complex.
“Desert Skyways: 75 Years of Clark County Aviation” is part of Harry Reid International Airport’s Diamond Jubilee. It looks back on the area’s rich aeronautical history through photographs and artifacts.
The main exhibit resides full-time at the Clark County Museum, with additional displays at the airport, and now at the State Office Complex.
”So on the display, we have a pictorial that goes through the history of McCarran all the way from its purchase in 1948 to the current re-naming as Harry Reid International, the growth and development, the airlines that flew through here,” says Amber Colbert, the museum’s administrator.
Colbert tells FOX5 that commercial flights help to make Las Vegas what it is today.
”Without the aviation coming into the southern Nevada, our economy wouldn’t have grown, so they kind of grew hand in hand, symbiotically together. We needed tourists to come to the Strip, the airport was the one bringing them in and now I believe they had over 57 million passengers last year.”
