LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man died after a motorhome with a deflated tire crossed the center median of Interstate 15 and struck a semi-truck in Mesquite on July 5, according to the Nevada State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:49 p.m. near the Sandhill Boulevard northbound on-ramp in Clark County. Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2017 Thor motorhome was traveling southbound on I-15 in the number two travel lane when its left front tire deflated. The driver crossed into the number one travel lane and entered the center median. The motorhome continued through the median and entered northbound oncoming traffic, striking a white 2025 Volvo semi-truck with a trailer.

The motorhome struck the left side of the trailer, overturned and caught fire. The Volvo was redirected east and struck the left side of a black 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. A silver 2009 Jeep Liberty, traveling northbound in the number one travel lane, sustained windshield damage from crash debris.

Fatalities and injuries

The driver of the motorhome, 62-year-old Gregory Louis Painter of Las Vegas, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by Mercy Air to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

A passenger in the motorhome was also transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and passenger were unrestrained at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to a local hospital with injuries. The drivers of the Volvo and the Jeep were not injured and remained on scene with investigators.
