LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An outfielder in the Athletics’ organization faces a long road to recovery after a frightening collision during Tuesday’s game in Texas.

In the third inning with the A’s Double-A affiliate, the Midland RockHounds, prospect Ryan Lasko collided with outfielder Devin Taylor while diving for a fly ball and was carted off the field.

Athletics officials provided an update on his condition Wednesday, saying Lasko underwent surgery at a Texas hospital.

“Outfielder Ryan Lasko underwent spinal decompression and stabilization surgery resulting from a C6 – C7 vertebra fracture at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano last night. Dr. Jonathan Poggi performed the surgery, and Ryan is in stable condition at this time,” the full statement read.

A’s General Manager David Forst also provided a statement regarding the incident:

“I’ve been in touch with Ryan’s mom, Patti, to pass along the organization’s support and to let her know that all of us, throughout our system, have them in our thoughts and prayers. We are incredibly grateful to Noah Huff and Audy Merrick, our athletic trainers in Midland, for their on-field actions last night, as well as to the Frisco RoughRiders and the paramedics on the scene. We are encouraged by the reports and updates from Dr. Poggi, and we will continue to put all of the resources of our medical staff towards supporting Ryan and his recovery. Ed Sprague, Director of Player Development, will be arriving in Frisco shortly, and our mental health professionals will be available to the Midland players to make sure they receive any help they need.

We ask that you respect the privacy of the Lasko family and our players at this time. We will provide medical updates as they become available.”

Lasko later shared an update on social media, saying he’s facing a lengthy recovery.

Lasko appeared in 13 games with the Las Vegas Aviators during the 2025 season, going 11-for-43 with one homerun and and five RBTs, according to MLB.com .

He is currently hitting .209 with six home runs and 34 RBIs with Midland this season.
