LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II will honor Las Vegas R&B group 702 with a ceremony at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign this Thursday.
The event happens Oct. 22 at 5 p.m., marking 30 years since the release of the group’s debut album, “No Doubt.” The ceremony celebrates the group’s Las Vegas roots and its impact on R&B music.
Original members Kameelah Williams and LeMisha Grinstead are expected to attend and accept a county proclamation. The county will also pay tribute to founding member Irish Grinstead, who died last year.
McCurdy said 702 “carried the sound of Southern Nevada around the world.” He noted the group represented Las Vegas everywhere it went by using the local area code as its name.
The sign will be lit in the group’s honor. The event will help kick off a weekend of anniversary celebrations in Las Vegas.
