PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) — A father is mourning the loss of his pregnant daughter and grandson who died following a crash over Father’s Day weekend in Phoenix.

Authorities said Leila Potts, 19, was a passenger in a car that ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle late Saturday night.

Potts was rushed to the hospital, where doctors delivered her baby, but both she and her son, Vincent, died a short time later.

“Two lives cut short for something ridiculous and careless,” David Potts, Leila’s father, wrote in a statement.

David Potts, a Navy veteran, described his daughter as “a bright, funny, beautiful person.”

“We just loved her beyond words. This is so unfair and horrible,” he continued.

David Potts said the baby’s father was driving at the time of the crash. According to Phoenix police, he was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said they didn’t believe impairment was a factor but did not immediately share whether the driver would be facing any charges in the crash.

Family members have since set up a GoFundMe to help lay the mother and her son to rest.
