LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting in southeast Las Vegas on Tuesday morning.
The incident was reported just before noon in the 9700 block of South Maryland Parkway, near Silverado Ranch.
Sources tell FOX5 the shooting happened inside a Smith’s grocery store.
Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.
FOX5 spoke to a witness who said she saw customers holding the shooter down until police arrived minutes later.
“I was on the pharmacy side of the store when I heard shots from the produce side of the store. It was like eight shots”, she said. As a former Smith’s employee, I know the protocol. So, since I was by this door, I started hurdling people out the door, getting people out of the store.”
She continued, “One gentleman ran up and was trying to tackle him. He tried pulling the gun on that gentleman. Another guy ran in. Between the two of them, they knocked the gun away and got him down on the ground. And then they wrestled his backpack off of him. As they wrestled the backpack off, an automatic rifle came out of the backpack. And then they held him down until the police got here, which was a couple of minutes later.”
Police said the suspect has been taken into custody and there is no outstanding threat to the public at this time.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
