LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A driver faces DUI charges after a crash that killed a Las Vegas woman early October, police say.

Nevada State Police responded to a deadly crash Oct. 1 before 5 p.m. on a connector road to I-15 northbound and the 215 beltway. It involved three vehicles: a Ford pickup truck, Cadillac and a Lexus.

According to a press release, all three drivers were traveling northbound on the same lane, approaching heavy traffic. The drivers of the Cadillac and Lexus began to slow down in response. The Ford didn’t.

The Ford driver hit the rear of the Cadillac, and then the front of the Cadillac hit the rear of the Lexus. Police said the passenger of the Cadillac, Celsa Vivas, 69, of Las Vegas, died at the scene.

The driver and the rear passenger of the Cadillac were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Police say the driver of the Lexus and two other passengers were also transported to the hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police did not immediately name the suspect or provide their condition.

The investigation is being conducted by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Major Incident Reconstruction Team.

So far in 2025, the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 47 fatal crashes resulting in 48 fatalities.
