LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Vegas Golden Knights development camp players spent part of their day at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, serving drinks and meals to dozens of clients.

About 50 players took part in the community lunch, visiting families, hearing their stories, and posing for pictures.

‘This whole organization isn’t just about hockey’

Organizers said the event is about building a bond between the team and the city to help let people in, bridge the gap, and let fans know they are not alone.

VGK prospect Lucas Van Vliet said the experience was meaningful for the players involved.

“It’s about helping people in need. You look at them when they walk through the door — it’s a smile on their face the whole time until they leave. This is a day every single guy wants to do. It’s an hour, but it’s the best hour of your life,” Van Vliet said.

Catholic Charities said anyone who needs help can come to them for services year-round.
